Tyosa Doska and Kesua both emerged in the group's room in the Broken Stein Tavern, where Arthur Grant, Aanso, and Balthazar had been staying. As they emerged, Balthazar vanished, and the Dochysh Jeq (the mysterious jewel-embedded metal spike which was now tied to their fates) glowed with a purple light.

The group caught up Tyosa and Kesua on what had been going on with the robots, Bellum, and Molly, as well as their plans to accompany Molly to Vanguard City. Tyosa revealed that, in the crystal space, he had had visions of a great shadow covering the land. He saw machines clashing and people getting trampled underneath. He saw himself sitting upon a throne and uniting the people against this threat.

Kesua revealed that she had contacted some people about the box they had recovered in Last Legend 4: Abominations and Books. She said that they believed it was invented by an old mage who had made many prophecies that had come true. She said that they believed that the box contained half a document which could only be read with the other half which, she said, her contacts had. Kesua's contacts had told her that the Order of Midnight had the key to the box and were willing to meet up to examine the contents of the box together. The meetup is supposed to take place in Vanguard City, where Kesua can give her contacts the word and they will arrange the meet.

The group tried to get transportation with a merchant caravan led by a man named Gbik. Tyosa attempted to persuade the man to let the group travel with him for free. However, Tyosa did not want to give his real name or rely on his family's connections/reputation, believing that someone had tried to assassinate him before he had gone into the crystal realm. His Influence powers wavered and Gbik's price of travel was too high.

The group traveled to Datdūm where they once again stayed at the Broken Stein Tavern. In Datdūm, Tyosa found another merchant caravan headed to Vanguard City. This one was lead by a Sniyan woman named Choska whose caravan included arcanium carts powered by magic crystals.

Vanguard was a massive city, visible from many miles away. The city was wide, but also built with layer after layer stacked upon each other. A massive steel wall, towering over a hundred feet tall, surrounded the city. The city buzzed with mechanical and arcane life of constantly moving and active machines throughout it. In the evening air, the whole thing glowed with arcane light from the crystal lamps across the city. Airships landed and departed from perches across the city. One cart at a time, the caravan was brought into Vanguard City via elevators.

Molly went to meet up with the League of Arcanists while the rest of the group found lodgings at a tavern called the Home of the Lion. The next day Kesua met with her contacts who told her that the meet would take place in three days. During that time, Kesua and Aanso rested. Arthur met up with the Machinists Guild in the city and worked on crafting. Tyosa Doska went and did research on the throne from his vision.

What he found was that the Dnunkpach throne is a holy site in the Guugbian Crystal Fields. Legends say that it was not made by human hands, and that one day a chosen person of noble blood will sit upon the throne and receive a revelation from Trīkmu, the goddess of nobility, that will guide them on how to unite all the lands of Tsud'uula. So far, all known nobles have sat upon the throne, and none have received such a vision. Tyosa believes that he may be the one who will.

The meeting took place in an arena in town. Kesua and one agent of the Company of Midnight (B'ui, who the party had encountered before) met in the middle while each party had people on either side of the arena in case the other side attempted a betrayal. Kesua placed the box and B'ui used the key to open it. Inside was the document, but it was connected to many arcane devices which were also connected to a timer that was counting down. Kesua and B'ui each tried to memorize the document before time ran out, and rushed away from the box before it exploded.

Kesua brought her information to her contacts, and they were able to put it together with other half of the document. The resulting output was a set of coordinates, the alphanumeric set of figures: "3?1!" and a drawing of several straight multicolored lines.

After delivering this information to the group, Kesua had to go to meet with her contacts. Arthur, Aanso, and Tyosa set out for the coordinates that she had provided. When they arrived, they found a destroyed structure, possibly a former mansion. In exploring the ruins, Arthur found fragments of letters or notes that had Balthazar's name on them. Aanso, using his time magic, was able to find a hidden trapdoor behind where the house was. The door opened to a stairway leading down into a large series of underground tunnels.

As they walked, they found a place where there was a large red crystal embedded into the floor. As they stepped on it, it lit up red. The group believed that this matched with a symbol on the drawing they had received from Kesua, and determined that the drawing was likely a map that they needed to follow through the tunnels.

Following the lines on the map led the group to a diamond-shaped grate on the ground. When they stepped on it, it lit up orange, corresponding to an orange line on the diagram.

Seeing a door, Arthur decided to go off the path to try to open it. On the other side was a large clockwork machine that immediately awoke and began to fire at Arthur. Arthur and Tyosa fired their own guns against the creature, and Aanso cast an arcane barrier to prevent it from reaching them. When all was said and done, the creature was destroyed and Arthur took some of the parts for use in his own devices.

The group continued on their way through the tunnels, following the map and not being tempted by more doors that they passed on their way. They reached a diamond that lit up yellow and continued on their way. Eventually, they came to a room in which there was a large clockwork scorpion that loomed over them. On the side of its body, it had lit a red, orange, and yellow light. As Arthur stepped on the diamond in that room, it lit green and so did a light on the creature.

Fearing that the creature would awaken if they lit all the lights, the group discussed what to do, with Arthur suggesting it was possible they would need the machine's help. Aanso looked to the future and determined that it was beneficial to dismantle the machine, so that was what they did.

The group found a grate which lit up blue and continued on their way. Eventually, they came to an opening in the hall where a humanoid clockwork machine stood guard. It immediately assumed the offensive, with two others coming up behind it. Arthur, Aanso, and Tysoa all directed their attacks at the machines, but the machines fought back fiercely, knocking Arthur unconscious and severely hurting Tyosa very early on. Meanwhile, a scratching/banging sound could be heard from a door opposite the humanoid machines.

Aanso used his time magic to heal Tyosa and Arthur. The fight raged on. Tyosa rushed to the door and opened it, finding a much larger and more well armed machine waiting for them on the other side...

Will our heroes escape this mechanical disaster, or will this be the end of them? Find out next time in Last Legend.
